Dr. Collea McKinney is in her initial season as 1st Assistant for The Woodlands High School volleyball program. While she has multiple teaching certifications, her current teaching assignment is Special Education Inclusion. Dr. McKinney has over 15 years of coaching experience in multiple sports (volleyball, basketball, and track). Her initial coaching assignment began in 2006 when she served as Graduate Assistant for the Henderson State University volleyball program. Her responsibilities at Henderson State included: recruiting, scouting, teaching, game film exchange, weight program implementation, and on the court coaching.
Dr. McKinney arrived at TWHS after serving three seasons as head coach at La Marque High School. Prior to that appointment, she served as Head 8th Grade Volleyball, Basketball, and Track Coach at Texas Middle School (Texarkana, TX) where she led the Lady Tigers to multiple district championships. She has also worked in various capacities within the athletic realm. She worked as a collegiate volleyball coach, Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Information Director, club volleyball coach, assisted with many volleyball and basketball camps, and provided private lessons for aspiring volleyball and basketball players. As a 2002 graduate of John Tyler High School (Tyler, Texas), Dr. McKinney was a four-sport athlete lettering in basketball, volleyball, track, and cross-country. There she earned All-District, All-Region, All-Conference, All-East Texas, and various other honors, including Female Athlete of the Year for all four years of competition.

She played there one year before transferring to Henderson State University where she became a two-sport athlete, lettering in basketball and volleyball. During her athletic tenure at HSU, the Lady Reddie basketball team finished the season with a 22-12 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2004, the Sweet Sixteen Division II tournament in 2006, and the Elite Eight in 2007. They also have a fur baby named Bella who is a two-year-oldChiweenie.
Dr. McKinney’s personal mantras are “Bloom where you are planted” (Joel Osteen) and “to whom much is given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48). She is a strong advocate for her students, and she believes all students have the capacity to learn. Her greatest pleasure in teaching is being able to watch students have that "aha" moment (that moment when they acquire a skill and become confident within their skillset). This is one of the reasons she is passionate about coaching.

Growing up in a high school gym, coaching at The Woodlands is like coming back home. Being given to opportunity to contribute to a program that has given so much to me and my family over the years is a huge blessing that is not lost on me. I hope that I can pass on the lessons and knowledge imparted on me from so many teachers and coaches that have made a big influence on my life.
Coach Pelosi has been married to her husband Andrew for 7 years. They have a son Eli and a daughter Vivian.
